Ever since my first trip to Oaxaca, Mexico in 2005, I’ve wanted to return for the very popular and very special week – Día de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. I’ve been back many times in October, with many of you. But this year is the first time we will be going for Día de Los Muertos and be in the heart of the city for Mexico’s most colorful and festive holiday.
This will include cooking classes, walking tours, salsa dancing, and creating and decorating an ofrenda (altar) to welcome departed relatives. Our host, one of the foremost authorities on Mexican folk art and culture, gives us an inside track to local families, markets, chefs, indigenous artists, musicians, and best of all, a special place to dance and enjoy Afro Cuban salsa music!
The food, the tamales, the smells, the markets, the mole, the music, the marigolds, the steaming chocolate and fresh baked Pan de Muerto (eaten with coffee or hot cacao), the construction in every home of the joyful ofrendas that celebrate the return of departed ancestors . . . all unique to the magical city of Oaxaca, always in the Top 10 best cities in the world (Travel & Leisure), and #1 in 2022 and 2023.
Every morning Oaxaca greets you with church bells and fireworks, and you greet the day with yoga practice – personal prayer, meditation, and movement. After a delicious Oaxacan breakfast at our private hacienda, Casa Murguia, your meditation practice continues 24/7, whether shopping for Sugar Skulls and rugs, or making tamales. As you joyfullyconnect with others and carry your mindfulness out into the world, each moment becomes an opportunity for wonder and gratitude.
Connect with like-minded souls, get your fire going, renew your energy, and elevate your passion for practice and service to the world. Develop lifelong friendships & ignite the yoga lifestyle as practiced by healthy, happy yogis all over the world.
